Experience and specialisms
Rob was educated at Homefield, Dorset. He trained with Thornton Baker (now Grant Thornton) and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1973, becoming a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1979. Rob also studied at Bournemouth University for a Master of Arts degree in Corporate Finance and Control.
After post qualifying experience in industry on freelance accounting assignments, Rob returned to general practice and became a partner at Hope Jones, Chartered Accountants. In 1991 Rob set up his own practice providing professional services to small businesses and private clients specialising in personal tax compliance and planning.
In addition to his practice work, Rob has been a university lecturer teaching the fundamentals of accounting to undergraduates and taxation to students of professional bodies (ACCA and ATT) and a tax consultant at Dickinson Manser, Solicitors (now Trethowans).
